Our Story

How It Started

In 2003 a group of young people organised through Pippins Youth-club in Axminster first took the steps in setting up a skatepaprk charity fund. Self built wooden ramps including a large kicker and landing ramp, grind rail (using crushed cans to stop it rolling off the wooden supports ) and multiple kicker ramps were used to organise skate Jams and events at Cloackham Lawns. These were very popular and attracted lots of visitors leading to a list of signatories being submitted to show support for a skatepark in Axminster.

The First Park

In 2009 Axminsters first Skatepark was built from funding raised and consisted of metal framed wooden ramps on a rough tarmack base. This was not the best of parks to be truthfully honest but was a designated park with ramps and a 5ft Miniramp, they quickly became dangerous after the wooden sections were damaged and were then covered with steel sheets to protect and extend their life. This park unfortunatly was underused and fell into disrepair, leading to its decommision and removal.

The original park was cleared and became  an empty space. however a passionate team continued to push for a new park, organising fundraising events to try and raise money for a new skatepark.

The New park 2022

In June 2022 work started on building the new skatepark with funding generated through 106 & land transferred from Cloackham Lawns Sport centre to the EDDC to allow the park to rent the land and opperate as a Charity run project.

In August 2022 the second phase of the park was constructed much faster than expected due to funding becoming available at short notice and Axminster Town Council funding the remaining amount needed for work to start. This has given us a fantastic facility to build on, not only giving the community an amazing skatepark but the opportunity to make it a community hub.
